College Credit Plus Pathways

Students participating in College Credit Plus (CCP) select course(s) to be taken after consultation with both their high school counselor and their Shawnee State University academic advisor. Course enrollment may be determined by placement recommendations, course prerequisites, academic goals, high school graduation requirements, intended college major, and course availability.

The 15 and 30 credit hour Pathways below represent a sample of courses that may be taken by a typical full-time, first year college student. CCP students may select from courses that are not part of the 15 and 30 credit hour Pathways and are not required to attend Shawnee State University full time. They are limited to no more than 30 credit hours per academic year, which includes summer, fall, and spring semesters combined.

Meta-Major Pathways

A meta-major is simply an area of interest. The meta-major College Credit Plus pathways allow you to explore an area of interest that may some day become a major while you are also taking General Education Courses that will meet your high school and college requirements.  Exploring a meta-major through College Credit Plus can help you make important decisions about your future major and career while you are still in high school or middle school.

The 6 meta-majors are as follows: Business, Education, Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Mathematics and Science, and Social Science. Selecting a meta-major helps academic advisors better advise you and helps you select courses.  Keep in mind that you may not be able to take some courses if you do not meet the placement score or if you have not taken a prerequisite course.  The choice of a meta-major should be done in cooperation with your guidance counselor and your academic advisor at Shawnee.
