The Department of Natural Sciences at Shawnee State University offers BS degrees in Biology (General, Biomedical/Pre-Med, and Ecology/Environmental) and Chemistry.
For students interested in pursuing a career in medicine, pharmacy, or other biomedical fields, our BS Biology and Chemistry degrees are excellent preparation.
We also offer BS-Natural Science degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, and Physics. For the Natural Sciences major interested in a career in education, we also offer five baccalaureates in Natural Science with Teacher Licensure (grades 7–12).
In 1998, Shawnee State University was selected as a seismic station for the Division of Geological Survey of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The Department of Natural Sciences offers modern instrumentation, including GC-MS, HPLC, AA, UV-Vis, FTIR, a Bruker Fourier 300 MHz NMR Spectrometer, compound and dissecting microscopes for the life sciences, and polarizing microscopes for geological studies.
For the premedical studies student, the Department offers several advanced human anatomy electives rarely available at the undergraduate level; including a cadaver dissection course.
