Chemistry Student

Welcome to the Department of Natural Sciences at Shawnee State University!

The Department of Natural Sciences at Shawnee State University offers challenging and rigorous Baccalaureate degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, and Physics. In conjunction with the Department of Teacher Education, we also offer four degrees with grades 7 – 12 teaching licensure.

We offer an Associates Degree in Natural Sciences that serves as preparation for a technical career, as well as a stepping stone towards our baccalaureate degrees.

For students interested in pursuing a career in medicine, pharmacy, or other biomedical fields, our BS Biology and Chemistry degrees are excellent preparation.

For the premedical studies student, the Department offers several advanced human anatomy electives rarely available at the undergraduate level; including a cadaver dissection course.

The Department of Natural Sciences offers its students hands-on access to modern instrumentation, including GC-MS, HPLC, AA, UV-Vis, FTIR, a Bruker Fourier 300 MHz NMR Spectrometer, compound and dissecting microscopes for the life sciences, and polarizing microscopes for geological studies.

In 1998, Shawnee State University was selected as a seismic station for the Division of Geological Survey of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
